How to Connect to Remote Server via Internet?

EfficientPIM is suitable not only for LAN but also for WAN users. If you still want to connect to server when you are at home, on business, or even in a branch company and so on. Please refer to the guide below.

Method One


  1. Please download EfficientPIM Server at:
  2. After you install EfficientPIM Server on the server computer, EfficientPIM will create a database file and connect to server automatically. (By default, the directory of database file is "C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\My Documents\My Information.effw")
  3. There will pop up the User Management window for you to create user accounts. You can customize users’ access rights, which include read-only, access to all users’ data, rights for import/export/printing, etc.
  4. Select one new account, you will see the related information about connecting to server. Then click Copy to Clipboard button and send the info to that user. (Note: password will not be displayed for privacy.) When the number of authorized user is full, the Add button will be disabled. If you want to add a new user, please purchase another license on our official website. And then click Registration Codes button to input it and to add again.

    Tips: If you need to connect to server manually in some time, just click File -> Connect to Server. And input this info below:
    Server ID: Get from Efficient Organizer Server or User Management Window. And then click Get Server Info button.
    Server: Automatically access
    Database file: Automatically access
    Username: SYSDBA (default system administrator)
    Password: masterkey (default system administrator password)


  1. Please download and install EfficientPIM (EfficientPIM-Setup.exe) on each client computer that needs to access shared data.
  2. Start EfficientPIM and click command File -> Connect to Server.
  3. Please input the related information that the administrator has set for you in the interface:
    Server ID: Get from administrator. And then check Remote access option and click Get Server Info button.
    Server: Automatically access
    Database file: Automatically access
    Username: the user name that the administrator has set for you
    Password: the password that the administrator has set for you

  4. Now you can connect to the data file on the server and share data with other users.

Method Two

Sometimes, if you fail to connect to server according to Method One, you can remote access by some remote control or desktop sharing software programs, like TeamViewer.

  1. Download TeamViewer here:
  2. Operate Teamviewer on two computers. And it is very easy to remote control if you input ID number and password of another one correctly.

Possible Reasons for Failing to Connect to Server

  1. Whether the administrator opened the database file without connecting to server.
  2. When the administrator set password for the shared file without connecting to server, whether he or she did not select It may be accessed simultaneously by multiple users?
  3. Whether the Windows Firewall allows EfficientPIM and Firebird to communicate through?
  4. Whether you uncheck "Allow users connect to server via Internet (Remote access)" in the window of Efficient Organizer Server, which is checked by default? (Generally, Efficient Organizer Server has been minimized to system tray)
  5. Whether the server computer connect to VPN service? If it does, please disconnect to VPN and try again.
  6. Whether you enabled UPnP in Router Setting.
  7. Sometimes, Internet Service Provider (ISP) has assigned a LAN IP address to your internet instead of an Internet IP address. You can ask ISP for a free Internet IP address in this way, "I want to make one of my computers as a Server computer so that I can connect to this server via Internet, please make my IP address as an Internet IP address."
